Antigua Guatemala

Antigua Guatemala is a magnificent city with more than 500 years of history. Despite time, the city is still alive and full of glory. It´s paving streets and colonial walls host legends and history of important characters that had great impact on Guatemala´s destiny.

The city was established on 1524 by the Captain Don Pedro de Alvarado and named “Ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala”. The location was chosen cause it´s ideal weather, plenty water and fertile soil. The architecture was composed by monasteries, churches, fonts and government buildings. It was the attraction for great artists, painters and sculptors.

When the city was completely established, Don Pedro de Alvarado went to a trip to Mexico, dying the 4th of July of 1541, leaving his wife widow: Doña Beatriz de la Cueva.
